Perfectly Crispy Baked Fries

These Baked Fries have the perfect crispy exterior, fluffy interior, and are heavily seasoned with salt and herbs! Soaking the fries in cold water before baking ensures they turn out golden and crispy! You are going to love this recipe!

These baked fries taste just as good, if not better than the real fried version! I started making these fries for my family about 10 years ago and they have been a favorite ever since! They are always a top request when I visit home! This recipe is also very versatile. Feel free to mix up the spices! Instead of Italian seasoning and parsley, try smoked paprika and chili powder! The options are endless! Have fun experimenting with new flavor combos!

Ingredients for Perfectly Crispy Baked Fries

  • Potatoes: You can use any potato that you like; however, I prefer russet or Yukon gold potatoes!
  • Olive Oil: A couple tablespoons to coat the fries.
  • Italian Seasoning: Italian seasoning typically consists of a blend of dried basil, dried oregano, dried thyme, dried rosemary, and dried marjoram.
  • Parsley:  Use 1 1/2 teaspoons for extra flavor!
  • Garlic Powder:  Use 1 teaspoon.
  • Salt: Use 1 full teaspoon kosher salt.
  • Black Pepper:  The recipe calls for 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper.

Making the Spice Blend

This spice blend packs the best flavor! It gives the fries the best herby, garlicky, and salty flavor! I love to pair these fries with homemade Greek turkey burgers! Here are some other flavor combos to try:

  • Smoked Paprika, Chili Powder, Garlic Powder, Kosher Salt, Black Pepper
  • Za’atar, Garlic Powder, Kosher Salt, Black Pepper
  • Or if your feeling simple… just Kosher Salt and Black Pepper!

Soaking the Fries in Cold Water

Looking for perfectly crispy fries! Don’t skip this step! Soaking the cut fries in cold water helps remove excess starch from the potatoes. This helps them bake up crispy and golden brown! Simply, fill a large bowl with cold water, place cut fries in the bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. After soaking, drain and dry the potatoes. Make sure there is no excess water! You want the potatoes to be very dry before tossing with the olive oil and spices.

Perfectly golden and crispy baked fries heavily seasoned with Italian seasoning, parsley, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

Ingredients

  • 6 russet potaotes

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning

  • 1 1/2 tsp dried parsley

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp kosher salt

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Directions

  • Using a fry cutter or a knife, cut potatoes into fries.
  • Place fries in a large bowl of cold water. Transfer the fries to the refrigerator and let them soak for at least 1 hour. Drain potatoes and pat dry with a kitchen towel until fully dry.
  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Toss the fries with the olive oil, Italian seasoning, dried parsley, garlic powder, kosher salt, and black pepper.
  • Spread fries evenly on prepared baking sheets. Make sure the pans are not overly crowded. You want the fries to be in a single layer and not touching each other. This will ensure they bake up extra crispy!
  • Bake for 20 minutes. Flip fries and return to oven to bake for another 20 minutes.
  • Once baked, I like to season the fries with extra kosher salt, black pepper, and dried parsley.
  • Serve right away!
