Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and these M&M Heart Cookies with Buttercream will make the perfect dessert! They come together in no time, use pantry staple ingredients, and are fun to make!

Ingredients in M&M Heart Cookies with Buttercream

  • Unsalted Butter: Use room temperature butter for this recipe.
  • Granulated Sugar: Use regular granulated white sugar.
  • Light Brown Sugar: Make sure to pack into measuring cup when measuring.
  • Eggs: Use large room temperature eggs for this recipe.
  • Vanilla Extract: Do not use imitation vanilla. Use pure vanilla extract for the best flavor.
  • All-purpose Flour: Make sure to use the spoon-and-level method to ensure the proper amount of flour is used. Adding too much flour will lead to dry cookies.
  • Baking Soda: Leavening agent.
  • Salt: Balances the flavor of the cookies.
  • M&Ms: Use Valentine’s Day colored M&Ms for this recipe.
  • Chocolate Chips: I like to use dark chocolate chips chocolate chips for this recipe.

Why Use Room Temperature Ingredients?

Using room temperature ingredients is an important part of making perfect cookies! Room temperature butter allows it to properly emulsify with the sugars. Using butter that is too cold or too warm will lead to cookies that are not light and airy.
