Ingredients for 30 Minute Chicken Sausage Pasta Bake

  • Rigatoni: I like to use Rigatoni for this recipe; however, feel free to use ziti, penne, fusilli! Really any pasta works!
  • Olive Oil: A few tablespoons to cook the onions, garlic, and chicken sausage.
  • Onion: You need about 1/2 of a large yellow onion, diced.
  • Garlic: Use freshly minced garlic for the best flavor!
  • Chicken Sausage: Use 5 links of your favorite fully cooked chicken sausage. My favorite brand is Aidells.
  • Tomato Paste: Used to deepen the flavor of the sauce.
  • Diced Fire Roasted Tomatoes: Use 1 14.5oz can. I love the Muir Glen brand!
  • Tomato Sauce: Use 1 14.5oz can tomato sauce.
  • Dried Oregano, Dried Basil, & Dried Parsley: Used to flavor the sauce!
  • Salt: Use 1 full teaspoon.
  • Black Pepper: The recipe calls for 1/2 tsp ground black pepper.
  • Shredded Cheese: I like to use a blend of shredded mozzarella and provolone. Don’t skimp on the cheese!
  • Fresh Basil: Used for serving!

Making the Sauce

Making homemade sauce is so much better than jarred! All you need are a handful of ingredients that you likely already have in your pantry! To make the sauce, cook onion and garlic in a couple tablespoons of olive for 5 minutes or until softened. Add in the sliced chicken sausage. Cook for 5 more minutes. Add in the tomato pasta and mix well. Cook for 1 minute. Add in the diced fire roasted tomatoes, tomato sauce, dried oregano, dried basil, dried parsley, salt, and pepper. Simmer for a few minutes before adding the pasta.
